You don't lose anything following those instructions, other than malware and crud.0 -

That is not a slow laptop. You have probably downloaded malware/junkware that slows down your Browsing experience.
You would likely do the same with a new laptop.
Better to just clean up the one that you have now.
Clean up using the usual suspects(and choose to remove all that they suggest); Malwarebyte's AntiMalware, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool.
Then reset your Browsers:

Totally agree with Nifty on this - I have an i3 laptop, and use it for dev work - the i3 processor is far from being a slow processor!0 -
Thought I would resurrect this thread rather than start a new one.
After lots of procrastination I did what was suggested and although not brilliant the laptop was much better and got me though the advents etc as long as I deleted my history regularly.
Over the last couple of months it has been getting slower and slower and making a really loud noise. Once again I did as suggested and it helped a bit. Once I turned off the third party cookies as Google suggested the speed really picked up
From further googling it seemed that the fan needed replacing so I ordered one online and today with the help of youtube dismantled the laptop and replaced the fan removing half a cat in the process. After putting it back together and starting it up it is so much quieter
yay! However it is even slower. To the point where it is taking three minutes to open up a webpage and then the Internet keeps crashing.
Have I done something wrong when putting it back together, I followed all the instructions and my files etc are all there.
Is there anything you wise people can suggest? I have tried switching it off and on again

Only thing I can think of is either fan wasn't connected properly and/or heatsink was nudged causing CPU to run hotter and therefore in a near permanent throttled state (can confirm with cpu-z logging), but even running at something like 600mhz a webpage won't take 3 mins to load.
I'd suggest a factory reset.0 -
The j you jaydeeuk1,
I will get the external hard drive out from wherever it is safely hiding and reset it.
Only thing I am worried about is that the speed was fine before I cleaned the fan. Obviously there is a multitude of things I could have done wrong but is there anything that comes to mind which I could have done to make it go so slow?Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

Not tired that will give that a go too. Not doing anything until the children are in bed. Made that mistake before

I'd guess it could do with some more RAM added to which would help with multi tabs, an i3 is more than capable of doing what you need as long as you feed it enough memory.
The keyboards are about a tenner on eBay and take 15 mins a small screwdriver to fit. There should be a vid on YouTube.0
