Laptop from Asda - not working

Hello everybody,
I purchased an Acer laptop from Asda on the 2nd of November last year. Around a week ago, the blue screen of death popped up with the error number 0XC0001. I've read a little bit about this on the internet and apparently it's quite serious but may be possible to fix with a system restore. Unfortunately I do not have the disc to do this (my own silly fault for not following instructions in the first place!) and therefore the only option is to purchase a new copy of Windows 8.
I was wondering what my rights are in regards to returning the laptop. Firstly, I'm unsure whether this is a hardware or software problem (assuming the retailer has no responsibility over software issues). It has been just under 1 year, so I would assume that Acer should be the port of call. I have however heard of people returning items to the store they were purchased from.
To make things slightly more complicated, I purchased the laptop online. I do have the original receipt with the order date on, as well as the original box and manuals.
Would I be wasting my time popping into my local Asda? Eleven months is an awfully long time and I don't want to look silly by expecting Asda to fix my problem after such a long period.
Any advice gratefully received

Take it back to Asda, this is your right.0

I will give it a try but I'm not going to hold my breath. In their defence, anything could have happened to it in the 11 months I've had it!
I've tried to fix it myself but to do this, I need to access the command option which I can't even do at the moment. This leads me to believe there is something very wrong!0 -

Just a quick update - I went in store and they gave me a full refund. Very happy! :j0

Call the acer number on the ASDA wallet your should have gotten when you purchased. If they cannot troubleshoot over the phone they will give you A reference to return to the store.
The wallet gives you advice on keeping the box and all components, so take back what ever you got with it (otherwise they may refuse)
I worked the CSD and have refunded and replaced such items in the past without issuesIn for a penny in for a pound :j0 -

The OP has already received a full refund.0 -

And there was nothing from stopping Asda from saying that they were not willing to consider doing anything until the OP had proven that the fault was due to a manufacturing defect.Take it back to Asda, this is your right.
In this case, Asda went beyond what they were legally obligated to do, but this isn't always the case with retailers, and it's always best to advise people of what their true legal rights are.0
