Real or fake?

Options
For a few years now I've mulling the idea of getting an artificial Christmas tree but when its came to the crunch I've always gone for a real one. Although its not a cost issue the price of real trees seems to go up every year so again this year I'm mulling the idea. I'd want something that looked as real as possible and lasted a good few years and was easy to store. Can anyone recommend anything?

Wonder what the split is.....Do you do real or artificial?

  • We do artificial as we find it horrible to let the tree die after Christmas and we don't have the room to keep a potted one, especially as they seem to grow so fast.

Artificial. No other reason than we've never ever had a real tree in my life and plus I have carpet so pine needles are a no no lol.
It's also money saving and is easy to put away each year.

I don't like the look of real Christmas trees at all. Look more like a bush and a bit bare looking. They're not for me at all.

  • Artificial and I hate them they never give you that Christmassy feel and never seem to look as good as on the box. Out 7 footer was alright just a bit of a pain to put up branch by branch. Now I'm back living with my dad I'm hoping he'll get a real one as the artificial one looked too thin!

Real tree all the time. We have carpets but have a Hoover to suck up needles. Love my tree, bigger the better. We get them from the Forestry commission, you pick your tree and they then wrap it and you take it home.
  • Artificial.. The tackier the better, the kids love it. Oh and its decorated in a right old hotch potch way..nothing matches and its certainly not colour co-ordinated!

I do love real trees - the scent, and the fact that it's a ritual choosing the 'right' one.

However, I prefer the look of an artficial tree as they're not all bushy at the bottom and then bare at the top :)

LOL same here. We don't have colour schemes. We have old and new decorations on it, and some are as old as 101 years:eek:
The more traditional the better IMO :)

artificial ... decorated so you cannot see any green!

I have cats so they would get needles in their toe beans and no doubt pee on it and I'd get the one with chipmunks in it knowing my look.. and spiders... and probably a flock of robins!!

I bought a tree in a pot when the children were little and put it in the garden after Christmas. It came in every year for about 20 years. It is now taller than the house!

I don't live there any more but my ex sometimes throws tinsel on it at Christmas. It is at the bottom of the garden, thankfully...

I've got a tree in a pot and this will be the forth year we've had it in the house. Hopefully by the time it's too big to bring in we will live somewhere with a proper garden to plant it out in, at the moment it just spends summer in our back yard.
They're a lovely idea and don't really drop needles like cut trees do, but they are a commitment!
