I want to find out which is cheaper: To heat a tank of water using the immersion heater or using the gas boiler (not combi)
In my mind gas is cheaper than electricity.
Please note I am not after comparing suppliers just fuel efficiency costs please. If this is on the wrong forum sorry I will shift it to somewhere more techy.
Thanks:confused:

    Right forum Snig.
Gas is a lot cheaper, but when heating a tankful, little point in leaving most of it to cool down again.
With clothes washing most machines are now cold fill, so water is heated by electric anyway.
And a 'navy' shower using electric uses minimal water and juice. It isn't on long enough.
Which only leaves personal washing, shaving and for that you could heat up a kettle of water.
Comes down to how many in the house. If constant hot water is needed, gas is cheapest.

Gas is much cheaper to heat a tank of water than an Immersion heater - unless you are on Economy 7 tariff.

Electricity costs approx 7p to 9p for a kWh and is 100% efficient.

Gas costs 2p to 3p for a kWh and a boiler is typically 70% to 90% efficient.

So depending on the price you pay for gas/electricity and the efficiency of your boiler, electricity is generally 2 to 3 times more expensive than gas.
