Electric blanket or similar

Hello
My Nan mentioned that she was cold during the night etc and sometimes a hot water bottle doesn't help. She also mentioned that her friend had an electric blanket in all her bedrooms and she finds it lovely when she stops over on holiday

I was wondering, does anyone know of a safe electric blanket that won't take up much electricity?
I also considered one of them microwavable wheat bag things, but it may still not be warm enough.

One thing I would consiider with the elderly is to much heat ,I would stick to a low heat

I'm sure she'll love it - I bought one about 10 years ago and found it was the best invention ever - I'm definitely a coldie though and I'm only 30 now! lol

Those wheat bags aren't brilliant, they don't hold heat for very long so if a hot water bottle doesn't cut it then a wheat bag definitely wont.

Oh I was going to say the opposite fairylights, I love my wheat bags! I find that they stay warm even in the morning they seem to still feel warm on my feet and mine were only from Avon years ago, I guess they are all different though?

Does she have access to Lidl? They have heated pads, like mini electric blankets. They have a 90 minute automatic cutoff so are safe.

All the new ones, really. My nan has one of the fleecy ones and said it was warmer having that on the bed even without switching it on, plus because they're a bit thicker you can't feel any wires through it.

I got one from Amazon for about £20, it warms up in about half an hour, has a safety thermostat so it won't keep on heating up until it's too hot and there's several heat settings, you can leave it on all night if you want to. It also claims to be machine washable (you detach the plugs) although I haven't tried doing this yet.

I find they use less electricity than one would boiling a kettle for a hot water bottle.

FYI, if you get one with dual controls you do need to switch it on at both sides (if you want both sides on), otherwise only half the bed will heat up!

I suffer from raynauds condition, and my wheat bag is a god send in this weather

My Nan doesn't have access to lidl, but I do I will take a peek there...thank you!!

That's interesting, I've tried a couple and none of them have stayed hot for very long but maybe I've just been unlucky. Mine have all been cheap ones so maybe I will give it another go with a slightly better quality one! I get painfully cold feet and spend winter glued to a hot water bottle, problem is I'm lazy and sometimes it's too much effort to fill it up

I think it was one of the Lloytron ones but I'm not completely certain . I was a bit worried ordering it because of not having heard of the make before, but it's been fine so far. Have a browse, there are loads of different ones. If your nan's on her own a single controller might be preferable rather than two. Dual controls are better when 2 of you share the bed, then you can set it to a different heat to suit each person.
