We bought an electric over blanket last year after having used one in a self catering cottage that we rented in February for hubbies birthday. When I was young we had an electric underblanket on the bed and it was ok but seemed to take a long while to heat up and cooled down quite quickly. The overblanket was a revelation very controllable - you can set it at 5 different heat settings, heats up in just 5 minutes then remains at the set temperature for either 1 hour or 9 hours before turning off. It is also very cheap to run. The one we have is this one. It's not cheap to buy but I wouldn't be without it now.

I have a silent night one which is pretty basic so it doesn't have automatic switch off or things like that (I have woken up sweating like mad once or twice lol) but I would say check your sizes. I bought a double as I have a double bed but it doesn't reach all the way to both sides of bed

it's so nice to get into a warm bed when I get in late from work & it's probably cheaper than heating the radiator in my bedroom to warm the room

I love the electric blanket on my bed. Have you also seen that Lakeland are doing electric lap blankets? They are quite expensive because they're faux fur, but I think there's a cheaper one which is just to cover your lap when watching TV etc rather than sleeping with it.
