    What do you consider too high? I know my nephew is paying £3500 a year with his mum as a second named driver on a fiat panda, he is 18.

    Have you tried any of the telematics providers that aim at young drivers? Here's a few to get you started;

    www.ingenie.com

    www.insurethebox.com

    There are quite a few more as well from the likes of Hastings, Marmalade, iGO4, Coverbox, Drivestyle etc...

  • Also consider taking higher excess and possibly limiting the miles driven

    Does it have to be a Corsa? The type of car can make a big difference, and not always in the ways you might expect. A lot of young people drive Corsas, many of them drive them rather badly, and this is reflected in the accident rates, and therefore premiums, for a Corsa. Some people have reported getting cheaper quotes for something like a Volvo - the fact that it has a bigger engine can be more than outweighed by the fact that it screams "I'm not a boy racer". Or try getting quotes for anything you can imagine your granny driving, but that the kids ragging their cars round the local industrial estate wouldn't be seen dead in.

    I keep saying this to anyone who wants to listen, but in my experience a big old very unfashionable car is much cheaper than a small modern car.

    A twenty year old Volvo estate was half the cost of insuring a small Peugeot for my daughter.
