Fridge hinge HELP!

HELP!
My fridge door has just broken. A spring popped, bits of plastic flew out and now it won't shut. Can I buy a new hinge? Is it easy to replace? I don't really want to buy a new fridge unless I absolutely have to!

It's a Smeg fridge. One of the ones that is hidden behind a cupboard door. The hinge has 'HETTICH' written on it, as well as the number '3905 5.0'.

Can anyone advise? I need to get this sorted tomorrow!

Thanks.

  • What model is the fridge?
See if it listed on this site

Go on to ebay.co.uk, search Hettich 3905 5.0, and you will find some which should match.

A quick google of the same search also gives sources, but at a higher price!
  • Last one I broken needed a new door. Door cost £180 so bought a new fridge for £280.

The label inside the fridge says:

    CODE: 751321
    MOD LF1700C
    S/N 00607 0205 1

I saw some that were around £60, which seems a lot but is cheaper than buying a new fridge. My worry is will I be able to replace them myself? I didn't put it on in the first place but it can't be that tricky, can it?

I was thinking that might be the way it goes, and I agree, if the price is heading that way then new fridge it is!

Those ebay photos look as if it's just a few screws. You still have the fitting screws from the old hinge?

Which eBay photos? The door is still attached with old hinges; all fixings and screws etc are still there. Something has broken inside the mechanism I think...
  • These types of hinge are very easy to fit. They are for wooden doors. Quite a simple process. Just order BOTH hinges and do as a pair. 30 minute job!

But which hinges do I buy? I'm looking at third party options on the whitegoods site, some of which look very similar and as though they might fit, but I'm not sure and don't want to get the wrong thing...

Can these be bought in DIY stores or are they order in only?
