Sofa bed matress - consumer advice?

Hi

I bought an EKHTOP sofa bed from ikea four years ago and recently the matress foam (the part where we sit on) is worned out.

These sofa have a free 10 year gurantee. I have looked everywhere for the receipt but I just cannot find it.

Where do I stand as a consumer?

Claiming under the guarantee, you are at the whim of their T&Cs, which if I recall, require a receipt. That long ago, they are probably unable to track that on your behalf.

You could claim under the Sales of Goods Act if you have proof of purchase (a bank or credit card statement would work for these purposes). But you would need to pay for an independent engineer to write a report saying the item has failed because of an inherent issue. You may struggle with this and a sofa bought so long ago, but without your receipt, it's probably your only recourse.

Alternatively, you could try ringing IKEA and they may honour the warranty if your item has the right date stamp. It's likely they won't though, as there won't be any proof that you bought it when the 10 year warranty was on.
