Would you reveal your bank details in public?

Someone came knocking on my door a couple of months ago wanting me to buy a lottery ticket for the local hospice each week. I wouldn't normally give like this but it is a good cause, and it's local so i agreed, but then he started filling in a DD form and askedfor my bank details. I was very hesitant and until i got a letter from the hospice a couple of weeks later, i was worried i'd been scammed but it all seems legit.
I've not won anything yet.
Normally i don't give out any details.

The general gist if what we're saying is with your sort/account number, no one's gonna be able to withdraw money from your account and then simply run off with it.

If they really had it in for you, they could sign you up to some DD's but you could get that reversed straight away.

Would I give it out to family? Yes
Would I give it out to customers? Yes
Would I give it out to some dodgy person in the street? No

Well it's a valid account in any case. So well done for having the cajones, if indeed it's your account. Looks like it's a current account too as it's authorised for DDs and FPs.

Surely this is just the same as those ads that used to be in the back of private eye - desperate nurse seeks funds to escape abusive relationship or whatever other !!!!-and-bull story they may have concocted.

Let us know if anyone makes any deposits (or withdrawals...)

Sure I would reveal it if you had a need to know, i.e. if you wanted to pay some money into my account. Unless you tell me that is your reason for asking, there's obviously no more reason for giving out my bank details than publishing my shoe size, waist measurement or pictures of my garden pond on an internet forum.

You're right his account wasn't hacked - I was wrong, his details were just used for mischief.
