Does my car insurance cover me for going to Guernsey ?

Hi all,

I have got a protected no claims fully comp policy.

I am going to Guernsey in a few weeks with our car. Does anyone know whether my policy will cover me for Guernsey or will I need to confirm with my insurance company ? I am hoping that I won't be charged additional money for doing this.

Please confirm if someone can help.

Thanks

You should check the territorial limits in your policy documents to be 100% sure but I can't remember ever having a policy which didn't extend to the Channel Islands.

Take a look at the insurance certificate, it should say where it's valid.
Guernsey isn't in the E.U. so I would be looking to see if it specifically mentions Guernsey or not. If not you'll have to give them a ring.

Yes check with the Insurers. They should be able to extend the cover, if not automatic.

If you have not driven around Guernsey before, the roads in some parts can be very narrow. You may have to mount a pavement, wait for a vehicle coming the other way to pass and then to dismount the payment to drive on. Don't drive along payments for any length, as people were doing this as normal practice, but have been getting done by the Police.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
