Made errors on my PPI claim - rejected

I only realized this year that I have been paying PPI on my Barclaycard, my long term memory is not too good but thinking back I had a vague recollection of being sold it over the phone at some point around 2006 and I was unemployed more often than not back then so I filled in a claim form and sent if off in the post.

Barclaycard PPI department got back to me quite fast and said my claim had been rejected because they signed me up for it at my local branch in 2002 while I was in fact employed as an office junior for about a year before I started university, but I have no memory of this at all and suspect they added it without my knowledge or at least without explaining things to me properly when I first got a credit card from them.

It turns out that the mix-up was because it was a different company that sold me it over the phone in 2006 and I have since settled that claim but it was only worth a small amount.

But the Barclaycard PPI I have paid over the years must be worth thousands so I'm wondering if because I didn't get my facts straight that means I no longer have a claim?

I read somewhere that Barclays mis-sold PPI in 97% of cases so it would be just my luck if I'm one of the 3% they signed up legitimately..

Barclaycard PPI would have been sold by Barclaycard, why do you think it would have been another company that sold it to you ?

And if you've already claimed and received a payment, why do you think you would be able to claim any more ?

    So which is it?
Did they add it without your knowledge or did they not explain things properly?

How was it a different company?

You still dont have your facts straight.

If your complaint was rejected, then how did you get a redress payment?

A few contradictions here. First you've only just realised you were paying it, then you seem to remember being sold it over the phone, then you suspect they added it without your knowledge. You weren't wrong that your memory isn't too good. Understandable as it was a long time ago, but it would probably have been best to try and get the facts straight before you went making a complaint.

It turns out that the mix-up was because it was a different company that sold me it over the phone in 2006 and I have since settled that claim but it was only worth a small amount.

Same applies here, if you are getting mixed up over who sold you PPI and when, it doesn't do much for the credibility of any account you may give.
But the Barclaycard PPI I have paid over the years must be worth thousands so I'm wondering if because I didn't get my facts straight that means I no longer have a claim?

You tell us. You are complaining (not claiming) that you were missold the product, I.e that you were given misleading or incomplete information which resulted in you purchasing a product you would not have done had you been correctly informed. Bearing in mind that you don't seem to be clear who sold you ppi, when or what info you were given it would definitely detract from any complaint you may make about it. So do you think Barclays did anything wrong, if so what and how clearly do you remember it? Just having PPI is not grounds for complaint.
I read somewhere that Barclays mis-sold PPI in 97% of cases so it would be just my luck if I'm one of the 3% they signed up legitimately..

You've probably read that in some CMC propaganda material. The truth is that whether something was missold is a hugely subjective issue and there is no way someone who was not there can speculate on how many time a certain company may or may not have missold a product.

So over to you. Did Barclays misinform you, is there a reason why you wouldn't have purchased the cover otherwise and do you actually have any clear memory of it?

How much you've paid over the years is of no relevance.

In addition to the above, if your complaint was due to the fact you were unemployed and they have shown that you were employed then it is right tha they rejected you. So unless you have anything else valid to complain about then that's the end of it.
