Anyone help with suggestions for window coverings, needed for privacy in front room and bedroom, thinking of wood venetians or sheer blinds, which would be the better option?

Sheer blinds usually let in some light and do not afford complete privacy (people outside can see the outlines of people inside, if not the detail). You'd need blackout blinds for total privacy.
Venetian blinds are more flexible in terms of amount of light allowed in, but are a pain to dust (and they do get dusty).
Aren't curtains an option? Interlined, they improve energy efficiency/warmth, too.0 -
sorry wasn't to clear, I mean for during the day.
People can see in during the day, I want as much light to come in but still be private.
Yeah dust on venetians I've heard is bad, but are sheer blinds washable?
I've got a good duster so shouldn't be a problem, just trying to workout the pros and cons for both.0 -
You might also want to consider a 'frosted glass' adhesive translucent film for the bottom half of the window (or even all of it). That would be the cheapest option, and just as effective at safeguarding privacy as blinds. This sort of thing:
