Best time to book a package holiday ?

Are there times that are better than others to book a package holiday for next year ? Do the various tour operators fluctuate in price , has anyone seen deals go up or down at certain times ?

Comments

  • There isn't one really. As early as possible can sometimes be cheap, sometimes expensive.

Most package prices depend on current demand for that holiday, so prices will be cheapest when demand is lowest.

The only time is when it is at a price you are happy to pay.
  • I have noticed that prices are often higher on a bank holiday.
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

If you want to go in peak travel times e.g. School Holidays, Bank Holiday Weekends, Summer) and are fussy about where you stay - book early...

If you are looking at low season and can afford to be flexible on grade etc, then you can afford to take your chance by booking late.

It's not automatically cheaper if you book further out if you are looking for something in high demand. However always good to subscribe to the TA mailing lists so you get notified of any particular offers/discounts they are running.

It is all a question of supply and demand, this summer there were too many flights chasing customers in August and a number of operators had very good deals for last minute bookers. That may not be the case in 2015, it is simply too early to tell. If you can travel in June, as a general rule you will always be able to get a reasonable deal. If you must travel on the first Saturday of the school holidays, it is very unlikely that you will.
  • I have been thinking about this as have been looking to book our family holiday for 5 (3 kids) for the first time. We wanted to go first week of junes as we have a 2 week half term. Given the complicated nature of our requirements I booked in this week and was happy with the price, there were some offers on. I will be keeping an eye on prices to see if I can hold out longer next time.
