I had a friend years ago insist on giving me a video about some MLM scheme full of happy couples telling me what a wonderful life they had, then invite me along to meet their team leader. I asked them straight what it was actually selling, but they wouldn't say and I said I wasn't interested if they wouldn't be straight with me. Never did find out what it was they'd got involved in and am no longer friends with them and neither are any of our other mutual friends they also tried to get involved with it.

  • I used to do the Phoenix Trading, OMG what a mess! So many rules, most of them limiting how you can market the products (cards, stationary etc.) made it an absolute nightmare.

Such hard work for so little return. I used to have my own business and premises employing people (leisure industry) and it was hard work but at least we made some money.

Luckily I threw the towel in within 12 months, which meant I could get a full refund on everything I returned.

If I was going to do anything MLM again I would robably go for Neals Yard as my previous experience was in Aromatherapy, so I could speak about the products with some knowledge and experience.

I do Avon and I enjoy it. I have never wanted to get into the MLM side of things and have never been pushed. I know people who have and some have lost money.

When I decided to do it, I had the constant push to become a sales leader and recruit people. I didn't like the idea of ultimately working for someone else just so they could continue to live in a million pound house off the back of my efforts. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do and didn't appreciate the pressure nor the lack of help. I was given a territory that appeared to be vacant but soon discovered that it wasn't - the sales manager didn't seem that bothered either. Thankfully I never placed any orders and left without spending any money.
