Payment still processing...

Sorry for the long post. Basically I'm looking for reasons why a payment wouldn't go through paypal straight away. If the seller has added a note to the listing that they are away, would that delay my payment going through?

I've just bought an item on ebay - it was a muli-item listing and there was 1 available when I bought, now it's updated to out of stock - which suggests I got the last one.

BUT when I made the payment in paypal it says payment is still processing. I fund paypal with a credit card and have never had this happen before. The payment does not show in my paypal account at all (which I think it should if it had gone as an echeque, for example). The purchase does not show up in my ebay purchases, and I've not received a confirmation email.

There is nothing to confirm I've bought the item. The only positive things are the fact that the listing showed 1 available when I bought and none immediately afterwards, and the paypal payment appeared to go through (although it says still processing) and the page tab says Checkout Success.

There is a note on the listing saying the seller is away until 13th October. Would this put some sort of a block on payments going through? That's the only reason I can think of.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal, or if there is some other way I can confirm the purchase? Thanks.

Where does it say the payment is still processing, as you say it doesn't appear in your paypal transactions?

I clicked through from ebay to paypal to make the payment. At the end of the process it brought up a screen saying 'Your payment is still processing", and

'If your payment is declined for some reason, we'll send you an email to let you know. You should then come back to your item(s) and try your payment again.'

Although I logged into paypal to make the payment this page with the message is within ebay - I *think* you automatically go back to ebay after a payment, don't you?

I would have thought even if it went through as an echque it would still show up in paypal so the only thing I can think of is some sort of hold on everything because the seller has added the bit about being away. I don't think I've ever placed an order before where the seller was away so I don't know if this is just normal?
  • Clear your cookies and cache.

Then log into Ebay and go to your purchases. Is it there?

    No :(

I've just cleared cookies and logged back inot both ebay and paypal, and the last purchase showing in both is one I made 2 days ago.
  • Looks like your purchase may have been at the exact same time as someone else purchased?

Does the seller have any more for sale?
  • I did wonder about that - but surely it wouldn't have allowed me to make the payment if I hadn't got the item? It was BIN.

Most BINS are immediate payment now, which means as you click through the item isn't yours until the payment is made.

You said the payment was processing (I'm assuming that's what the screen said as you tried to pay?). It is likely that someone was doing the same at the exact same time and was a moment or two quicker than you.

You didn't make the payment, you just tried to. The item had sold before you completed the transaction, hence why it doesn't appear in your purchases or in your paypal account.
  • Well, I HOPE you're wrong about that - but I won't know until the seller gets back and replies to my email.

The message about it still processing came up after the paypal page that says Confirm and pay. If I was too late wouldn't it give some sort of message about the item already being sold, rather than just say it's still processing?

No, there is no message saying it's 'already sold'. It does say, it isn't yours until you have paid. So if it went between you hitting BIN and before you CONFIRMED the payment, it isn't yours. The only other thing you can do is go to the item and click on the number sold. If your user name isn't the there then it isn't yours. The other buyers will all have part of their username hidden by asterisks.

It's not in your Ebay purchases.

It is not in your Paypal transactions.

    But you think you've paid.
