Sony BM10 Bluetooth receiver/Dell Inspiron 15 connection issue

I've just purchased a Sony BM10 Bluetooth receiver, for connecting to my hifi to listen to music through it from my phone and laptop.
It connects perfectly to my phone, using NFC, so that's great. However, I have come to connect my Dell Inspiron 15 to it via Bluetooth, and it won't work.
I put the BM10 into Bluetooth mode and my laptop finds it. I click on Pair and it says it is connected. However, then the BM10 seems to go into standby mode and the laptop then says it is not connected. Signal strength is shown as being non-existent.
My drivers for Bluetooth are apparently up to date, so I'm not quite sure what the issue is. I'm aware this is a long shot but wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar and might have any ideas?
