I've worked for an insurance company. Believe me, they *will* look for an excuse to pay out in the event of a costly claim, whether performance enhancing or not; to the extent of checking ECU check digits to identify remaps, examining suspension components for non-standard springs, etc...
If it's just a Mabel vs. Doris knock in a supermarket carpark, they'll not bother, but if you rear-end a Ferrari or brand new Range Rover, they may well consider it work the £500 independent engineer's fee.0 -

You don't get it.
This is not a Jetex exhaust or a K&N filter.
We are talking about it being illegal to remove it from a car fitted with a DPF from new due in part because the car can only be sold in the EU by passing certain emissions limits.
I am no fan of DPFs and was looking into removing mine until the change in the law.
Do some research on Construction & Use Regulations and why using the "A bloke on MSE said it was fine" will not be much of a defence.
I doubt anybody on here will say they like DPFs.
Why would you.
They introduce unreliability and cause increased fuel consumption and reduced drivability.
But what can you do the poxy EU do whatever they like.0 -

It doesn't have to contribute to an accident.
You can be in the s##t if the DPF is found to be tampered with.
This is more complicated than getting round an MOT failure issue.
It is not the same as a decat pipe.
You need to do more research before somebody gets themselves in trouble by reading yours, and others, related posts and giving it a go.0
