    I normally recommend to people:
    Alloy frame for lightness or very thin steel tubing
    NO suspension
    Shimano gears with trigger shifter NOT revo
    V-brakes
    Normally end up in £200-300 territory.

    I quite like Claud Butler bikes. Have a look at the the Urban 200 Ladies.

    Proper bikes shops know about bikes, the rest just talk like they do.
