Private Parking Tickets in Scotland 2014

Hi all,

I am just needing some advice on private parking fines. I have within the past two months or so received a total of 6 private parking fines in the same car park. This was due to work commitments and no on-site parking I could use. The car park is monitored by UKPC and the sum total of fines is just over £500. I'm just wondering whether you think I should pay it or just leave it. I have heard that I should leave it because to take me to court is more expensive than what they would receive back but in my case I have a rather substantial amount I am due them.
As a side note the car is not in my name it is in my Dads and he was pretty angry about receiving ONE invoice addressed to him so I'm not looking forward to seeing his reaction when lots more letters/ invoices will come through my door.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. :)

The advice in Scotland is still to ignore unless you receive official court papers.

UKPC have just issued some in the Dundee and Forfar area.

All the more reason NOT to respond and give away who might have been driving then! If you get court papers (very rare) come back but the keeper cannot be held liable in Scotland, so stay as 'the keeper' and DO NOT reply talking about what happened. If Dad is the keeper then he isn't liable - end of story. I think he misunderstands the law. It would be madness for him to name you but he could respond and state as fact that he was not driving and cancelling the alleged contract* - or he could just ignore the letters and seek advice here if they try a small claim. UKPC are nothing to be scared of!

    * see here re right to cancel contracts (Scotland):

also discussed here even though this particular thread starts by talking about an appeal (Eng/Wales only):

It includes some wording about cancelling a contract. Your Dad can't use the entire letter shown there though as POFA 2012 and POPLA doesn't apply and there is NO APPEAL in Scotland. But he could use the wording about cancelling a contract and finish by denying the debt and stating as a fact, in truth, that he was not the driver on any of the occasions but will not be naming that person. As there is no keeper liability in Scotland, he can say there is no case for him to answer.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
