We have convinced ourselves we spent whole days roaming fields, scrumping apples, and playing conkers in a carefree fantasy land of perfect childhoodness.

Not a fantasy at all, this is exactly what my friends and I did!! And we did it on our own, there were no parents hovering about either! My kids' generation were about the last to do this as well, before everything went to hell, and kids had to be "entertained" by the parents. :(

Schools can stand up for themselves all they want, they still get successfully sued for children running into trees unfortunately.

I collect conkers and polish them with Antiquax. They gleam beautifully with a soft sheen, in a bowl, look like really expensive dark chocolates.
  • Its not banned at my 9 year olds school. He came home with a bumped head letter on Thursday as a conker had hit him on the face near his eye. Its a right shiner and my son is very proud of it. He's been taking selfies all weekend!

This could be a Daily Mail headline.

Edit: Apologies. There is no mention of immigrants, giant deadly spiders, benefits scroungers, Ebola threat or any female celebrity's nude body. It wouldn't be a headline, merely an article.

    Is that better?

I am responsible for health and safety in a primary school, is that ok? Not merely quoting hearsay.

No I wasn't asking what you do, I was asking for some legal references to parents successfully sueing a school when children run into trees. Just you writing it on here IS hearsay.
I'm genuinely interested as although it's a good few years since I was both a primary and secondary school governor I never came across anything remotely like it.

I don't have any legal references I'm afraid, you will have to take my word for it- it was an out of court settlement by the LA.

One school requests parents teach their children how to play conkers http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-24578863

I'm 43, and never really wanted to play 'conkers' when a child, I just loved hunting for them and collecting them and sometimes even planting them!
