Can a UK mobile on Orange PAYG receive texts in Australia?

I have just come back from a month in Australia and have an Orange pay as you go phone which I used several times for texting and receiving texts. Not cheap though, although I can't remember the actual cost. Anyway, the main thing is that it's fine to do.

Receiving texts is free. Other than perhaps North Korea (where I'm not sure if you're even allowed to take a foreign sim card with you yet?), the phone will work in pretty much any country on the planet with a working mobile system. And receiving texts will be free of charge in all of them.

You don't say what phone you have but just to point out that although Australia uses the same dual band system as the UK, which means that any phone will work, it may not do so in a stopover country unless your phone is tri or quad band.
