    Some meal ideas:

Chana dal (chickpea curry)/lentil curry with rice
Chickpea burgers (no flour, use gram flour instead which is inexpensive from Asian shops, approved foods or world food aisles)
    Chapattis/flatbreads made from gram flour
Lentil and vegetable stew (recipe on BBC Good Food)
Risottos: use veg or chicken. To add richness add extra virgin olive oil, and sprinkle with toasted pine nuts instead of cheese (healthier too)
If you're allowed soy, porridge is a goodun. Oats don't contain gluten but may be prepared in environments that contain it. Shouldn't be a problem unless you're a coeliac though (ask doctor to be sure)
HM wedges and mixed bean/beef chilli
For a treat: rice pudding made with coconut milk and a low sugar jam.
Stir fry with rice noodles, toasted cashiers and LO meat
Italian White bean soup with kale

Reheat leftover hot meals for lunch or make big batches of soup and freeze in single portions.
Salad with boiled potatoes, boiled egg and tuna (nicoise)
Rice salad (rice, herbs, mayonnaise/dressing, peas and LO chicken/tuna)

It sounds rather extreme. Is this proper medical advice to treat a diagnosed condition?

It might be best to forget about replacing bread etc and just having one (gluten free) porridge or other cereal with fruit meal, a rice based meal like curry or chilli, and a meat, potatoes and vegetable meal daily.

I am very sorry to hear that, Jem. It will be hard at first getting used to the dietary changes, but hopefully it will all be worthwhile in the end. :)
  • It sounds like an extreme change from a medical professional, but it does sound like the Harcombe Diet phase 1. If you check out the Harcombe diet website and have a look on ebay for the books these might help you out.
    Good luck!

    Hi
Thats sounds like it a massive change. It will take some time to adapt to a new way of thinking. You will probally have to find your own way of doing things, as many of the recipes out there are eighter dairy free or glutenfree.

    A few blog ideas:
    http://www.latartinegourmande.com/
    - glutenfree options - not dairy free

    http://glutenfreegirl.com/new-to-gluten-free/
guide for people new to glutenfree eating - recipes - does use dairy

    http://www.cannellevanille.com/gluten-free/pink-pearl-apple-pie/
glutenfree - does use some dairy

    http://www.forkandbeans.com/2013/12/16/guide-allergen-friendly-baking-dairy-substitutes/
    - guide on baking without dairy

Do you know the site eat your books? The site offers a possibility to search for cookbook recipes and online recipes.

I have made a search for recipes that are glutenfree and dairy free and found 603 online recipes - your will be able to refine the search more. If your remove the online option and include recipes in cookbooks you will get 2500 recipes. (You will not be able to see the actual recipe in a book, but maybee you will get an idea for what and how to make something)

    Hi Jem

I am slowly moving over to more Paleo inspired meals which is basically what you are being told to do.

I think the key is not to think about replacing like for like, ie wheat bread for GF bread but to find meals you enjoy which are naturally all those things.

ie Steak with garlic and herb ghee (ghee tends to be well tolerated but if not then use an oil you like), mushrooms fried with courgettes and some chips is one of my all time favourite meals and perfectly paleo!

Roast dinner minus yorkshire puds and with HM gravy/jus is also GF and all the things you listed.

Instead of pasta, try zoodles - courgette which has been spiralised or ribboned with a peeler and then cooked in an open frying pan (to stop it being too wet) with bolognese or carbonara (raw egg and cooked bacon/ham stirred thru whilst still hot enough to cook the egg a little.

If you concentrate on eating real food rather than food replacement products then you can't go far wrong and will be nourishing your body with wonderful nutritious foods. If you are on FB, find a Paleo group as they will help you a lot :)

Do you mind me asking what your illness is? Paleo has been found to be hugely successful in treating many, many illnesses and conditions.

    Good luck :)
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Curtain pole installed in the living room
    Paint curtain pole
Window quilts for landing window & french door
Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
    Insulate front door
Bubble wrap windows & french door
    Wash front door curtain
    Blind for the bathroom
Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!
    Wash heated throws
    Wash duvet & wool blankets
Buy vest tops to go under clothes and PJs
Buy nets for bathroom and kitchen
Buy or make blind for kitchen

Jem I was reading Primal Blueprint some time ago. I got really into it and felt a lot better the only problem was the cost but as it's just you having to adapt you won't be trying to feed a whole family that way.

The ethos is similar to paleo but not quite in that you should eat animals and plants and avoid grains and much, much more.

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/definitive-guide-primal-blueprint/#axzz3FllAK9bK is a great site about primal.

By following this idea it might be possible to get recipes and learn about avoiding the food groups you aren't allowed any more, be part of a group etc.

    Hope to help a little.
  • Like Fruball says primal / paleo diet is very close to what you are describing. A good website for those style recipes is chowstalker - http://stalkerville.net/site/chow/ , it searches various recipe pages and finds ones for the paleo dieters which will often match what you seem to be looking for. Marks Daily Apple is another site you might find helpful.
