NICEIC / ELECSA / Electric Safe Register??

Hi
I'm looking for an electrician and there seem to be a number of different schemes and associations for them to belong to; NICEIC / ELECSA / Electric Safe Register..
I have no idea what the difference is or why I should prefer one over another.
As long as an elecrician is registered somewhere and able to issue a Part P certificate for the work they do should I care which trade body they're actually registered with?

No difference, I'm with NAPIT. There are 5 (or is it 6) companies offering registrations services for Part P sparkies. NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, CORGI (yes CORGI) and others...0

A facebook page has been created (Elecsa Certsure Corruption) to provide a public forum for disclosing poor ethics and conduct of Competent Persons schemes. Following a disclosure of documents by some sort of whistle blower - anyone who is a member of ELECSA/CERTSURE needs to question the value of the CERTSURE, ELECSA and NICEIC brands because it appears to disregard the public in favour of supporting its fee paying members and is unlikely to sustain public confidence.
It also seems evident that 'special relationships' exist with a few select contractors who get preferential treatment / first refusal of insurance / platinum promise based' work. The competent persons schemes are controversial at the best of times, but clearly the DCLG needs to re-evaluate their place in the industry if they are to show blatant disregard for the public and encourage corruption/unfairness in the allocation of tenders within the industry.
Evidence currently being disclosed on this facebook page demonstrates clearly that the competent persons schemes are not independent - they are supported by their fee paying members (ie the electricians you might have to complain about) and it is clearly evident that they may not investigate your complaints impartially and may dismiss legitimate complaints against their members in order to protect their revenue stream.0 -
People have only just realised that the electrical registration schemes are paid for by the members they are supposed to be regulating?
It's no different to other schemes, such as FENSA or HETAS.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

There pretty much all the same ( possible exception of BSI there works will be the same as others but has only few hundred members no longer accepts new scheme members will it be around in its present form in a few years ?) If you assume all works are done correctly For Joe Public the only problematic thing can be getting copies of certificates so probably phone up the appropriate governing body prior see there process and if there is a charge etc0
