Feel free, go right ahead. Ever eaten cow tail? It doesn't taste as bad as you'd think.

    Get off your knees man.

This is getting odd. Just out of sheer nosiness, how do you see a united ireland? Will it be some weird fascist state like pre 1977 Spain where only Catholicism is permitted?

Here's my thought, folks. There are so many foreigners here these days and possibly as many as a quarter of schoolchildren are foreign parented, that combined with the "prods" in the north ( why is that term allowed when other racist names are not?) the irish catholic is in danger of losing overall majority status. This is yesterday's row and we're moving into a new era. No one can say what's going to happen.

Although past performance is no guide to future returns, black swans have become commoner,a dog is for life not just for Christmas and once Ebola lands all bets are off.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your ideas.

the north is a much more religious bound society than the south. how could protestants in the north complain about the influence of the RC Church impact on liberty in A Hpme Rule Ireland, when the Stormont Health minister doesn't want gay blood transfusions and abortion is neigh on impossible in the north?

Yep. The best one would be for all nationalist parties to renounce their ambition to a 32 county state, which is what the unionists are afraid of. Remove that obstacle and all that's left is the governance of the 6 county state which I'm quite sure Stormont would be able to do a great job of.

lol, yeah, don't think that is going to happen. But the 32 county ambitions of the Nationalists are not responsible for current crisis. (indeed, if it wasn't for the Dublin government, where would the Orangemen get all their money:rotfl::rotfl:)
the North have lived beyond their means for years, existing on inflated British government subventions during the troubles and then with begging bowl act during the Peace Process with the promise if the money kept flowing we wouldn't shoot each other any more.
Now,we are just normal little region without the whole troubles/peace process excuse anymore (despite even more bloody talks about flags and past etc etc etc) and the Torys are out to shaft us. Just like Liverpool and Newcastle and Glasgow. At least Glasgow voted to get out of it.

Well, it's now hip to be no longer catholic down south, so you're at least partly right. I do think however that the objection to abortion is pretty much endemic in both populations. The ban on gay blood donations is not limited to Northern Ireland - plenty of socially liberal countries have the same policy and there is a good scientific argument for it. Possibly the minister's attitude was influenced by an objection to gays, but there's a rational objection as well.
There's a referendum on gay marriage in the south coming, so let's see how that goes. I hear plenty of people saying they'll vote no. We'll see.

Politics aside - I'm not interested in them - NI has never been able to pay its way, has always required a subvention and always will unless they discover oil off Portrush. That's why, although desirous of many people "dahn sahff" they couldn't take us on without the subvention continuing.

You be nice to me now or I'll cry. :p

The only thing I disagree with there is the Glasgow vote - saw your own head off to spite the Tories. Daft.

It was only the Glasgow City vote which was "Yes," all the affluent
areas in the Greater Glasgow Area voted NO!

So really it was just the Buckfast element kicking off.

I just wish there was a party up here who weren't so dependent upon a religious vote. The DUP etc etc sicken the life out of me.
