Many won't check for you to sign up with a prepayment meter but they will check if you ask to get rid of it.

It is likely they will ask for a deposit and will charge you £50 or £60 to change the meter. However if you are a close to or above average user you will make the payment back in cheaper rates after the first winter.

Once you have a couple of hundred pounds for the deposit don't hesitate to ask to change.
