Hi all

My in-laws have just received a letter demanding a payment of £275.00 from Miah Solicitors in Leeds regarding a parking fine of issued by UKCPS about two years ago from Nov 2012.

The letter is addressed to my mother in law who passed away July 2013. It relates to parking in a disabled space outside Boots at Kingway in Derby. My mother in law was actually a blue badge holder.

The letter has been delivered to my brother in law who lives at the property. He is obviously at a loss how to deal with this. Clearly paying it is not desirable. Does anyone have advice as to how it can be dealt with?

Thanks!

How about using the 'search this forum' heading & popping in the word 'Miah'? Search this forum is on page one above the threads (use the Forum Jump to get there).

:D Result = loads and loads of threads telling people what to write back to such scum. Read the threads you find to understand why we are so derisive about them.

In your case the Executor of the estate needs to reply robustly telling them to 'do one' and attaching a copy of the death certificate and saying the driver was also a Blue badge holder and certainly used any disabled space due to a genuine disability need. This is NOT a debt for the estate to pay, it's a fake PCN, not even a fine.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The registered keeper was your mother in law, therefore there is no direction for the ppc to pursue. You may wish to let them know the situation or not as the case may be. If they ask for evidence, tell them where to go. The only person summoned to court would be your mother in law.
  • Personally I would ignore it. It can go nowhere. Doesn't matter what threatening rubbish they send, they cannot take anyone to court.

And I'm sure she'll not be too worried about getting a CCJ if she doesn't reply to court papers.

My condolences - tell Miah Solicitors to do one.

The local rag might well be interested in running this.

The landowner (not necessarily Boots) should get a rocket up their a**e too.

  • Thanks for the replies all.

I think I'll draft a letter (I'll take a look at the FAQ bit first) Is it best to write to the solicitors or UKCPS, or indeed both?

    Thanks again.

Both, I would say - if only to avid distress for anyone in the family in handling hysterical letters for months. Such an intimidating scam - imagine if your poor MIL had received that letter when she was still with you but ill? Many of the older generation just pay these thinking they are real fines.
