Confused re car hire

Am going to Tenerife in a few weeks time and looking at car hire. So confused. Don't want to be ripped off (as has happened before!) Should we buy the excess insce here in the UK? Is there a guarantee that we won't be forced to buy the car hire's policy. I know that their salesmen can be aggressive! Also do you always have to leave credit card details for a deposit?
Don't want the new pre-paid fuel policy which is a rip off.
Can someone please help?
Which is the best company to go with?
I am not stupid but really find this a mine field!!
thanks

If you buy separate Excess Insurance, you will need to leave a CC deposit.
If you hire a car via a Broker, the likelihood is that you will pay for a tank of fuel and dependent on the T&C, get a partial or no refund for fuel returned.
The trick is not to just go for the cheapest that you can find and to actually read the T&C.0 -
We've used Orlando in the past and found them OK (no unpleasant surprises) but their cars tend to be a bit tired
For our next trip in December we are using Tenerife Rentacar. No credit card required to book, pay in cash for the rental if you wish plus EUR 125 damage deposit which will be returned in exchange for car, full tank of fuel and keys.
Rental rates are competitive
Sounds good. I'll post on our return

we use Autoreisen

have used several times in the Canaries, easy to book, good rates, no cons, no bother at all. We usually pay the CDW there.
No connection other than satisfied customer. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Just back from Tenerife. Paid EUR 125 cash for 11 days car hire from TRC plus EUR 120 cash deposit which was refunded on return.
Car was fine - Fiat Panda. Service was excellent.
No hard sell and no credit card used so no risk of unexpected charges, and the TRC team seemed very honest and trustworthy

Try e-mailing Autos Plus Car. They're a Canarian company, who include all insurances etc within their quote, and I'm pretty sure you don't need a credit card, as there's no mention of one in their terms and conditions, though you ought to e-mail to check.0

Ahh. Didn't notice that. Hopefully it will help someone else who looks at this at a later date anyway.0
