Hi, Im trying to help my dad switch energy companies but he is a bit confused and I struggling to understand what he needs. He says he has a white meter for his underfloor heating. I'm guessing that what he means is he has a meter for off peak energy and whether he uses is for underfloor heating or anything else is irrelevant. He lives in York and I've only seen reference to white meter in Scotland. He is speaking to energy companies but they don't know what he means and it's something I haven't heard of before. I've look at the tool for switching companies but I don't know what to put in. Any help would be appreciated.

What supplier and tariff exactly is he currently on?
If it's an E7 tariff (which some people refer to as a white meter), then there is no issue switching supplier. Use a comparison site to find the best deal.
If it's any other type of RHT (restricted hour tariff) that is more commonly referred to as a white meter, do not attempt to switch supplier as most other suppliers will not have a compatable tariff.
I suspecvt this is what he has as (a) you are struggling with using a comparison site and (b) energy companies don't know what he has.
Sounds like he's had a lucky escape. Many suppliers will accept him as a new customer (so the agent gets a bonus at the end of the month) and then the trouble really starts.0
