Daughter evicted please help

Our daughter (23) was evicted from her home (she has a room in a shared house) on Tuesday. She has been with a landlady for over two years. She moved next door to a house this person manages in July. The landlady accused her of doing damage to this house through a leek in the bathroom shower and demanded that my husband pay thousands of pounds in damages or she would be evicted. (This is not the first time this has happened) The owner of the house finally intervened and said there was very little damage and it wasn't our daughter's fault. I asked the landlady to stop harassing us and to provide our daughter with a tenancy agreement and an outline of her role. I also informed her that she could not enter the property on a daily basis and had to give 24 hours notice. We were then subjected to a barrage of vile and vitriolic emails. Our daughter was removed that evening from the house where she was living, back next door to the original landlady's house from where she was evicted the next day. She has always paid her rent on time and is in fact paid up until the end of the month. She is with us now and much calmer but she went through a very distressing time, particularly as she has some special needs and finds it difficult to deal with change.

I assume LL is trying to get round the law by saying there is no tenancy agreement but the law would say she has a verbal agreement and paying money this amount of time every month is a acceptance of agreement.

Keep the emails as evidence, either way unless he was a lodger and not a tenant she cant be evicted like that, its actually a CRIMINAL matter but police are untrained in this and assume its a civil matter and refuse to help.

    Please clarify who lives where.

Did daughter share either property with landlady?

    If not, who with?

    Who was rent paid to?

    Any paperwork?

    Any deposit paid? Regsitered?

    Gas certificate provided?

Quick question - what do you actually want to achieve here? To get the housing back? Compensation? To punish the landlady? Recover a deposit? It will help us direct any advice.

Also, whilst I appreciate this is a distressing thing to have happened, please be precise in your language and use paragraphs. It makes it much, much easier to help and will benefit you because more people will reply with better answers.

You mention landlady and owner seperately so a bit confused.

I am guessing but they may mean landlady as in agent of some sort or just a warden i.e someone who takes rent and lives onsite but not related to LL just works for them or a agency that just works as middle man.

    Could be wrong though.

Also where in the UK is the property? There are different laws for Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The law in E&W is the same.

CAB has different pages for England and Wales for advice on renting from a private LL so that's what I went with. It could well be exactly the same advice on both pages though.

RTB rules different in Wales to England, but that's the only difference I know of between the two.

Regards OP; first thing to establish is whether the daughter is a lodger or tenant...?

Not quite. Same legal system, but doesn't necessarily mean the same laws apply. Remember some powers are devolved to the assembly and others to councils. But commonality is very very high.
