British Gas

i need some advice i am fuming with British Gas

basically we pay our bill when we get it on a 3 month basis, i get a reminder to give them a meter reading then get a bill in a couple of days, i did this in both april and july and received a bill saying we had some credit and there was nothing to pay

bonus i thought,

well got my reminder a few days ago and then got my bill saying billed from 28th sept 2013 to 4th oct 2014 so over a year! i emailed them and asked what the hell was going on and they have basically said that they billed me incorrectly in april and july and now because of their mistake i owe over £500.

surely thats not right, i have emailed back and said i am willing to pay the difference from the july reading to the october one but nothing more but they keep just saying, I'm sorry for the inconvenience but we billed you incorrectly!!!

and my april and july bills have disappeared off my account!!

just feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall!!

Also just checked the payments on the account and i paid them a payment on 11th October 2013 and 24th jan 2014 yet this bill is from sept2013 to oct 2014!!!!

    As a customer who has elected to pay the bill on receipt, and even provides meter readings so that the bill can be calculated, how did you imaginge you were ever in credit, especially with July's bill?
    (Only possibility is that you failed to provide a meter redaing in January or before, leaving a hugely over estimated bill that you paid without question and you were using that credit)

    Anyway, in billing you for the last 12 months now, they would have anulled previous bills issued for that period, and credited your account with any monies you paid for those previous bills.

    Unless there is an error in the latest bill (which you will need to advise them of) then you owe them the money. As you opt to pay on receipt of bill, and you have received a bill, you presumably know what that means ;)

    If you have difficulty paying the whole amount, then I suggest you call the supplier and make arrangements to pay.
  • i have an online account and receive the warm home discount so had £145 credit on my account,

    i received a bill in both oct 2013 and january 2014 and paid on receipt of these, the payments are showing on my account yet the bills have disappeared

    there is no credit showing on my account in regards to crediting from previous bills!

    Then you need to contact them asking what has happened to the funds/credit used to pay the previous and now cancelled bills.
