Need advice about wrong information on a purchase

Hi

I bought an "unlocked" iPhone 5s on eBay Friday. Looked at buyers and sellers feedback and all 100% looked genuine and description at the time of purchase was spot on. So I paid by PayPal on that day and he sent it special delivery which I recieved the following day.. All good so far. This was supposed to be an Xmas pressie for my partner, but gave him it early so he can start using it.

He ordered his nano sim from vodaphone, received that on tues, and then problems start....

Come up with message "sim not valid" strange!!

I messaged the seller asking for help, but no response

I took the phone to both vodaphone and apple shops and both confirmed my fears... It's not unlocked and previous owner needs to get his network to unlock it...so I messaged him yesterday... And still no response!! To top it off he has a no returns policy.

I have opened a returns/refund case and have to wait 8 days for the seller to respond. Is it true ebay protects PayPal payments and refunds if the buyer is not happy within 30 days of purchase?

HELP????

No returns policy means nothing. Open a not as decribed case and they will soon start talking. If they dont respond to the case you opened you will win.

Just make sure you send it back fully tracked and insured.

No returns to me means this seller maybe a PITA to deal with. So i bid less.

  • Many thanks for your advice. Gotta ask what's a PITA? Lol. :j

Let the Returns case run & if you have select Not as Described or similar the seller will pay for the eBay return, once a delivery has been made or attempted, your able to close the case & get your refund.

We've had a similar issue & the seller refused the delivery & it came back to me & I got the refund from eBay.

The other issue with Mobiles, is the seller can make a lost claim weeks later with their insurance co & get it blocked

But that's a criminal offence yeah? Sure it's classed as fraud.

I don't know if it's fraud if the buyer ends up with the phone AND the refund.

But surely if it is because of the sellers own stupidity/mistake thats not the buyers fault, so long as the buyer holds onto the goods to make them available for the seller to arrange collection.

Or - the seller has no idea that the ebay DEFAULT setting of "no returns" is the "wrong" way to list something, most people would trust ebays default settings to be the "right" way to list.
But dont let that get in the way of your assumptions about sellers :rotfl:

Not quite - the seller MIGHT have to pay for the return, it depends if they have been put into the new returns system yet or not.

OP - I assume this is worth a bit of money, so use a good courier to return it fully insured, ebay/paypal cases need to see "atempted" or "deliverd" status online. From my experience some couriers are better at updating tracking status than others :-( eg my last amazon tracked return never showed anything after "collected" :-( the only way I knew thay had it back was when they refunded me.

FYI - Paypal now allows claims for up to 180days.
