Delivery Driver hits fence - who pays for repair?

Had an item delivered today, the delivery driver hit my fence and clean broke one of the fence posts. Never heard of the delivery company can't seem to find many details but have contacted the retailer I bought from.
My question is who should pay for the repair, I have a contract with the retailer not the delivery company for delivery of my goods, there was a delivery charge of £19.

Assuming he drove into the fence then you claim ultimately against the driver/ his employer though their Motor insurer are the ones that will probably deal with it for them if they are a small outfit as you suggest0

Assuming they admit doing it then it should be fairly straight forward, send a pair of estimates for fixing it and get a cheque for the lower of the two quotes. May take a couple of months due to everything being dealt with by snail mail and backlogs etc but it isnt overly onerous.
Of cause if they say they didnt do it is then a different matter0
