Hi,
I've had two quotes to re-roof my garage. It's double length wxl 3m x 12m. It's got a felt roof but was poorly constructed and as such some of the wood has become damaged.
Both quotes cover ripping off the roof, re-doing the struts, and re-boarding using 3-layer. Also both included adding guttering etc.
One comes in at around £3K. The guy seemed very professional.
The other is around £1.5K. But they were a bit rough and ready and wanted cash. They did say work was warrantied for 10 years.
Which is the more realistic quote.
Thanks

Giving price is hard as you don’t mention what materials they are using, timber sizes spacing. Boarding sterling board ply, what type of felt, if there removing the waste etc, material cost vary a great deal ?
Shouldn’t take more than a day for two men to remove old roof, £100 - £150 pm and start putting in timbers, Should be timbered and boarded by end of second day, Felted and guttering up by the third ? All in all two men 2-3 days work tops? This does depend on heights, location, and ease of access, weather etc
If they are both using the same materials then I’d say expensive at 3k? Some firms would use to two experienced tradesman which cost more others one experienced one trainee (the trainee's cheaper?) In this case removing / reinstalling under supervision of the experienced tradesman should be no difference in quality of work maybe fractionally longer to do. It’s more a case of needing another pair of hands Labour.than a second tradesman?
If your worried ask about a works schedule pay at the end or as each stage is completed the rest on completion?Plenty of workers look ruff turn up in a dirty van etc because work and more of it means you don’t get a chance to change clothes between jobs quotes etc I’m more weary when they turn up in a shiny suit ,clip board and flashy car as I know I’m someones paying for that shiny suit and flash car ?0
