Selling on collection only...?

Hi all,
How does the ebay process work if I stipulate collection only?
I was looking to sell upon collection only but accept payment via paypal. However, if the buyer decides to pay by cash, I'm happy with that as well.
However, I couldn't see an option for that so I've just had to click the paypal option. If succesful buyer contacts me and asks to pay in cash, that's fine but a) is this acceptable? b) How will that work out with fees if by any chance they don't turn up

There is, or certainly was when I last used it, a payment via other methods option.
I believe eBay advise against accepting PayPal on collection items as there is no 'proof of delivery' and so you are not covered by their protection policies.

PayPal on collection only items is a big NO, I urge you to read this thread about postage and seller protection before you list anything.Hi all,

As for collection only, that can be a minefield as sellers cannot refuse PayPal, yet PayPal say it is not a suitable service for collection only items. If selling collection only items please read this thread

I'd also say don't accept Paypal for collection items. It's very easy for someone to collect and then do a chargeback saying they never received anything and, unlike Royal Mail, you don't have a proof of postage or collection (even if you get a signature on collection, the buyer could just say it's not theirs).
I recently sold a lot of collection-only items, and although I had to tick the Paypal box I said cash on collection only in the description. One person paid by Paypal anyway, but when I explained why I'd only take cash and refunded the payment he was absolutely fine with paying cash. However, another person refused to pay cash and got quite insistant about paying with Paypal. In the end they stopped responding and I filed an unpaid item case. I can only assume that buyer might have been trouble.0 -

I suggest you read the sticky thread about collection items. Refunding the PayPal payment might well have given you a defect as it was not accompanied by a cancellation. You also cannot insist that buyer repays with cash either.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks all - I have reset the auction so it is live again now.
Selected paypal as I couldn't unselect it but stated in the item description cash only upon collection, paypal only if item is being couriered with extra costs for P&P on top of that obviously.
Thanks for your help, now just to hope it sells!0 -

If you read the sticky thread I mentioned you will see the flaw in the way I think you've set that up.
Basically, to avoid someone paying by paypal and not including postage, the postage must be the main option- with collection also available. So if they checkout and try and pay the invoice it automatically picks up the postage. So if postage is not added in the postage section and they click to pay, paypal is always the default setting and it will show without postage.
That still leaves you having to refund and trying again.
Anyway, if you can use a courier I would strongly suggest you set auction up with that as the main option- your market will increase as you won't be limiting yourself to local people.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
