Hi all
Quick question please
I'll be taking car into local tyre place later to get both fronts replaced.
Will I need to get the wheels re-tracked and balanced if i have the tyres changed?
I'm not experiencing any wobble or pulling at the moment as this was sorted out quite recently.

Cheers

Balancing is always done when you change the tyre.

    Tracking is optional.

If it's a tyre shop you're using, they should balance the wheels as part of fitting the new tyres.

Watch to make sure they tighten the wheel nuts with a torque wrench, not their air gun - otherwise next time you need the wheels off, you may not be able to undo the nuts as the windy gun overtightens them!!

An air-gun shouldn't overtighten them - but it often does as they can't be bothered changing the settings and just leave it on the highest one.

Check that they set the torque wrench to the correct setting for your car's wheel nuts/bolts.

Most alloy wheels actually require a fairly low setting that most folks would think wasn't tight enough.

Mine are supposed to be 120Nm - even using the little stubby wheel-brace in the tool kit I could greatly exceed that.

I even see some folks standing on the wheel-brace - to make plenty sure that they are far too tight. :(
