I've connected at T5 twice and would have easily made both in less than an hour.

As BA would be on the line for EU compensation if they miss the connection, I'd say an hour is reasonably safe. Particularly as there will be dozens of options to take if they do miss it.

Not if it is weather related which is the most common delay type on this route.

I wasn't aware Edinburgh had so many weather delays.

Regardless, they'd be fully covered for rerouting and food/drink.

I personally wouldn't pay £120 to marginally reduce the risk.

Wind, fog, ice, snow - all pretty regular contributors to delays at Edinburgh. And in my experience BA seem to delay domestic flights at the drop of a hat so that they can keep international flights on time.

I used kayak. Read a lot on the internet about the best way and both seem to have pros and cons.
Currently £110 pp dearer flying to san fran rather than to san Diego, but with better flying times as it arrives earlier in the day.
Another cheaper option is to fly to Philadelphia or Chicago and change there but it's 18hours plus with the connection.
It will be 2nd week in June.

Which make it less likely to get a delay for ice and snow in Edinburgh (but you never know...).

North to South - you will be driving on the coast side of the road, views will be uninterrupted by oncoming traffic. You will also be on the correct side of the road to pull into, and out of, the 'Vista Points' where you will want to stop and take in the views and/or take photographs. Weather will get warmer as you travel south.

South to North - you will be driving on the mountain side of the road, oncoming traffic (which can be nose-to-tail) will obscure your views. You will need to cross oncoming traffic to pull into and out of 'Vista Points'. Weather will get cooler as you travel north.

SF can be foggy, even in June.
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
