TSB Select Account (packaged) Total newbie needs help!! :)

Hi, I'm a little (well lot) confused about the whole PPI thing and wondered if anyone could help? I had a LloydsTSB Select account for roughly 12 years. When I opened the account it was because I needed a debit card. Prior to this I was only offered a basic atm cash card. I had to pay a monthly fee of £4.95 for the privilege of the debit card, as well as a £100 interest free overdraft, sentinel card insurance, AA roadside membership and mobile phone insurance. I didn't want the other 'perks' at the time but was told this was the only way I could get a debit card. I have made use of the AA but the card protection and mobile phone insurance (would have to pay £100 excess so not worth it anyway!) have been pretty useless. The monthly fee has now rose to £8.95 per month. I'm not sure if this qualifies as 'mis-sold' or not. Has any other member had this kind of account and if so have you been successful in reclaiming? Any help appreciated :)

The account charge is not PPI, they are 2 different issues, don't get them mixed up in your complaint.

It may have been the case that you DID have to have the paid for account to get the overdraft but if this was no use to you and you never dipped in, it may work in your favour as well.

You can put in a complaint about the account charge, they may even refund it if you did use something though it helps your case if you have never used the AA (especially if you had cover already) and never registered a mobile phone (which is required for the mobile insurance).

Whack in a complaint and see what they come back with, can only say no

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hi there.we complained to our bank about the same and got all our money back ..we had no car so AA cover was no good.travel insurance no good.as my partner is diabetic.and does not cover him fully .nothing was explained at the time.yes we used the overdraft, I rang them about this site .and said we were not happy. give it to the bank as they refunded all our 3years money in 5 days and all done over the phone .so go for it..
