Central heating system valves

Can someone advise what voltage is conventionally used to operate control valves in central heating systems?

The reason I ask is that a friend tells me that his control valves are 240V mains operated, and I wanted to check whether he is (likely to be) correct or not.

I should add that I don't know what make of equipment he has - I just wanted to find out what is ~typically~ fitted in UK installations, to validate what he is saying.

The 2 systems I've needed to do anything with were 240v (DIY bodger, not plumbing expert...).

What, installed by a DIY bodger? That's worrying...

Now I think back, my last place had 240V warning signs on the wiring to the valves, but I never needed to do any bodging on them, so never needed to investigate.

Ok, thanks - so mains powered is likely.

There are some low voltage systems / valves in use but generally all domestic systems run from 240V mains.

The system that I installed when I built the house were certainly 240v. Don't know about nowadays.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Not at all - that's why they invented airing cupboards to hide 'em away...
