When does son's income count for HB?

I have three children but my eldest son is 17 almost 18 and is an apprentice. I have emailed my council but had no reply so will ring them when I can but in the meantime does anyone know the answer? As an apprentice he only earns £2.68 or so an hour and I was told his wage doesn't count for HB purposes, only minE. When he turns 18 his pay is unlikely to go up. When does his wage start to count for HB purposes ie when it is added to mine to become the household income? My friend seems to think it doesn't which doesn't sound right as if I was on a very low income and he earned loads it would mean I could still claim....

When he's 18 I think you can still claim HB but it will be reduced but he can top it up out of his wages.

I don't think his wage will be counted while he is an apprentice, when he is on a normal wage they make deductions depending on how much he earns

If on a government approved apprenticeship his income should be disregarded as he should be classed as a trainee.
