Its my daiughters birthday today, shes 14. I got her an Ipod mini a few months back which she wants today.

I charged it up with the main plug adaptor, said it should take 4 hours, when it was 4 1/2.

Anyhow I installed Itunes, it then asks to update it which I did to latest build.

I plug ipod mini with usb 2 adaptor into pc (usb2). I run itunes but it doesnt see it, as per instructions. When I first plug it in it wants to update ipod mini I asusme the firmware, but it wont update. I ripped a cd with Ipod but as ipos isnt showing up in itunes I can move it there.

Am I missing something here, any ideas?

Pc seems a disc in my computer but when I click on it, it wants to format it, which I did alreday with Itunes when asked.

Uh oh. You need it today??!

I've not had a problem with ipods, you follow the instructions and it all works. Does the ipod show it's connected, a big circle with a cross through it?

It could be a duff ipod, duff cable, duff usb port, although you're saying XP can see it as a disk, so I'm not sure if that's an issue. Could be just a bad installation of itunes. If you go into Settings on the ipod > About, what version does it show, and is it Windows formatted?

Thanks for help, not sure what was wrong with it. Followed instructions as they are easy to understand. Maybe it was a bad flash I checked all cable, when I reflashed it with Apples advice it worked, but I had to reflash it, unplug it, connect with mains with charger. Unplug it 20 secs later and it worked.

Cant figure how to import mp3's now on it, you know the type I mean ;) just dowloaded some fere software which shoudl do the trick. Got have me Tea now ist bene cold for 50 minutes. :(

As long as you have music in your itunes library when you connect your ipod mini it should appear in itunes and automatically sync with your library.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

You can add files by just dragging them from Windows Explorer across into iTunes and the ipod synched folder. It can be a pain if the files don't have their tags set correctly as they end up getting displayed in multiple places.
