how long does it take you to get used to a new car?

  • For me, it's the size of the car that takes a little while for me - I am incredibly short and always reverse park so if I go from, say, my mum's C1 to OH's Almera (sadly I am currently carless...) it often takes a few attempts to park perfectly. Am usually OK driving though.

10 minutes. Love finding stuff days/weeks/years later- like a dimmer switch for the dash lights.

I found a bunch of coin slots in the glove box last week, only had the car four years.

I usually find 'features' when I give the car a proper interior clean before selling and then get annoyed at myself for not finding it earlier.

I've been driving for 21 years, a lot of hire cars / work cars / a few of my own cars, never had an issue with any of them.

I bought my Mazda 2 2008 (Petrol) just over two years ago, and I can safely say it's taken me 1-2 years to get to the point where I don't have to be overly aware of the clutch.

The clutch on that car has a similar feel to being stood on the rooftop ledge of a 25 story building, with a recently bereaved orangutan, high on meth (the monkey not me), holding a shotgun, whilst I recite the alphabet backwards, knowing that if I make a mistake Clyde will give me both barrels.

The clutch on that car is a !!!!!!! ...true story.

I went from a 5 speed 60bhp FWD to a 6 speed manual 200bhp FWD to a 7 speed auto 430bhp RWD. All were comfortable to drive within a few minutes but I still was occasionally going for the clutch/ gear stick a week or two after switching to an auto[/QUOTE]

Are you really saying it only took you 'a couple of minutes' to get used to a 430bhp car? - is that having never driven one that powerful before?

Takes me ages. Mine (seat mii) is currently in the garage and they've given me a pug 208 to drive. Had it sine last Friday and have hated every moment! Its too big and I can't get used to the biting point. I can't wait to send it back.
