Egg PPI - from a long time ago

Hi all,
Its a slow work day today and I have what feels like a stupid question so just throwing it out there...
At some point in my past I had an Egg credit card (possibly pre 2000 but not 100% sure). The only thing I know for sure is that I was paying for PPI. I guess I had the card for about 5 years with a maxed balance of £5000 that never seemed to reduce as my minimum payments pretty much equaled the interest+PPI. I have no idea if it was mis-sold and I probably applied for it using an online form if one was available. I was pretty naive at the time and probably thought that having PPI increased my chances of getting the card - but whether someone told me that I do not know.
So my stupid question is... is it worth pursuing a complaint if I all I know for sure is that I was paying for PPI without knowing whether it was mis sold or not? Whilst I know this is a daft question I feel I need to be recompensed something for all the pesky PPI phonecalls from PPI claims companies that have bugged me over the last few years

Your issue is going to be proving you had it first of all, before any complaint happens. Do you have any records from that period (bank may well have destroyed them if your account was closed longer than 6 years)? Otherwise you can try Egg (search this forum to see who handles complaints about Egg now) and see if they have any record of you - you may have to pay £10 for a SAR to see if could dig out any files on your account
Secondly, remember simply having PPI is not a problem, it's only if it was miss-sold. Egg were online only I think (maybe??) so a pre-ticked box (opt-out) might win you the case, but if you ticked the box yourself, they can argue you miss-bought (as you chose it). They will have records of this period to know if it was opt in or opt out.
Thirdly, do remember PPI payments were a few pence in the pound and you making minimum payments which were swallowed up by interest is not a reason for complaint against egg - that's your own financial situationSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
