Time to update meter on MPAN database delays swap

Options
I want to change my supplier from British Gas to a competitor. The competitor told me they could not accept me until I changed my meter from an old Economy 7 dual one to a new single rate one, even though BG had mananaged me on a single tariff on this meter for several years. Accordingly I had the meter changed today. I have just learned from BG that it takes them 4 weeks to update the database, and that I cannot proceed until that is done. My existing tarriff runs out at the end of October, so it seems that I will have to go on to BG general tariff for a month until I can arrange the swap to take place. I can't understand why it should take so long to feed the new info into a database so that I can proceed with my application. There doesn't seem to be any way to hurry things along. I can provide photographic evidence of the new meter, and I have the job sheet showing the installation, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do with these. I end up paying for their tardiness.

How much have British Gas charged you for an unnecessary change of meter?

If £0 then you have saved tens of pounds more than the couple of pounds extra you will spend on the Standard Tariff.

All of this for the convenience of a competitor you are switching to. And it is British Gas who are the bad guys?

(And if you are paying British Gas for the meter change then the cost of the delta for the tariff is trivial compared to the cost of the change.)
