Another school strike?! 14th October.

Just had an email from kids school.

UNISON on strike.

Not heard much about this on the news at all. Did you know anything about it?! Your school closing too?

I work in a school and won't be striking. Just got to wait and see if the two schools my children attend will be open....I don't work in either of those schools.

That's great news. The sooner the public services stand up to the government the better. I'm sick of the people who didn't cause the deficit (and aren't feeling the benefit of any reported upturn) being made to pay for it.

You're a teacher, OP, don't you know about it through your school?

First I've heard. What tends to happen at kids secondary is they operate a partially closure and keep the older students there, which may be son as he's in yr10 and youngest in yr7 would be off. As it happens I'm not needed a t work for the next few weeks, so sorting out alternative arrangements shouldn't be an issue.

I only heard about it today when the secondary school emailed to let me know they don't know how many teachers will be striking so they don't know if school will be open or not. They are going to email parents on Friday and let them know what is happening.

I've not heard if the primary school will be open or closed.
Here I go again on my own....

    Nope, not a bean!

Which is why I was so shocked to get an email from my kids school about it. Not been on the news that I've seen, nothing through from the NUT to show solidarity with it, nothing at all.

Had I known it was brewing I'd be less surprised.

there shouldn't be any teachers striking it's non teaching staff that are striking.

Unison is usually support staff- as mentioned above. The key people in this strike will be the cooks: no hot food available- no school and if there is no caretaker available they can't open either
