  • This was on the motorway.
I expect the power to weight is similar to a 335d anyway.
It spins through the first 3 gears easily enough in the dry, so first gear isn't too bad...
You may pull ahead until your car gets too far away and loses radio signal with the controller.

Even a fully modded E46 330D with aftermarket intake, exhaust, decat, removed swirl flaps, egr delete and larger inter cooler probably would give an absolute maximum of 300hp.

A stock e46 330d with remap would give around 250hp. I assume your car has the latter set up.

A stock e46 330d does 0-60 in what, 7.1 seconds (if you have the 204 hp variant). Using the rule of adding 10hp shaves off 0.1 seconds off the 0-60, you're car still does around 6.7 seconds. A fully modded e46 330d would do it in the low 6's, in line with a stock e46 330i.

There is no way in hell, that even a fully modded e46 330d can keep up with a e92 M3 off the line or on the motorway.
  • No, I meant that there are well off people who have the disposable income to spend on a performance car but probably don't have it on their list of priorities as they probably have a passion for something else. They just want to get from A to B in comfort so most likely they just get a Prius or a Merc

You do talk some crap you know. I care a lot about driving, but that doesn't mean I'd drive a Toyota I'm-so-bleeding-Pious or a Merc. Neither do I any longer feel the need to drive some pimped-out 3 series repmobile like the M3.

Rubbish. You're still living in Top Trumps world where BHP is the only number that matters, and there's no such rule as 10BHP here, -0.1s there.

We've done this the other day. Try to keep up. It's all about power-to-weight ratio, torque, gearing, and, ultimately, the driver.

I guarantee you my weekend toy will more than keep up with your 3 Series, and it has a LOT less than 450BHP.

It doesn't matter what facts and figures etc you work with, there was less in it than you would expect - or believe (you're not alone, why would you be 400bhp vs 250bhp).
Do you think I was in an M5 lying to everyone how close a diesel got to my pride and joy?
It's not all about peak figures, but area under the curve.
He got a bit of a run on me, I didn't think I needed to drop a gear in 'the beast', and it took a while to level out then pull away.
You would have to work your E92 M3 harder than you would like to admit, and could easily think it's a diesel, I won't need to do much; in which time it'll be steaming ahead on a wave of torque while you think fcuk me I need to drop a gear here...

Discussing automotive engineering and performance upgrades isn't "childish." How boring would the world be if we all thought like you and drives the same eco-box and only think of practicality

I thought he had a fair point, actually.

Interesting you think the world would be boring if we were all the same, but you think it'd be OK if we all drove M3s.

That's my final word on the subject, the OP has a right to have his thread without it being despoiled.

In fairness, I was party to the thread-diversion as well.

I agree with the OP's point, although TBF I did think the wording was a little unnecessarily harsh. As if I'd ever join a BMW forum!

    Me too, sorry.

OP, somewhere that just does mot's, or council mot place.
I've always thought it a good idea to pay full price (unless you know somewhere and they charge less) so they don't look for repairs.
