Rented House - Wooden worktop.

Well I asked for smoke alarms (to which they told me it was my responsibility and then I replied that it wasn't) and when they brought them round (for us to fit) they also gave us a CO (yup carbon monoxide) alarm.
However after talking to my grandfather in law who rents out a few houses, it is the law and they have to be placed at a certain height and not near a window and 1 per room with gas appliance (ours is in the bathroom where the boiler is).0 -
In England there is no legal requirement to have smoke alarms or CO alarms in a rented property. The exceptions are if it's a HMO it requires extra safety features, or if the property is a flat built within the last few years as these had to be built with mains powered smoke detectors.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I had a wooden worktop in my last place. It was a bit of a pain to keep clean. In the end I found that a Flash Magic Eraser did a great job of getting rid of stains.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Sounds like my old landlord who put up silk curtains, found a stain that hadn't been listed on the inventory, and then charged us for "replacement of all the matching curtains" which they still haven't done as I know who is now in the house.
Without proof that you have agreed to an inventory, how do they prove you have stained anything?Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
which they still haven't done as I know who is now in the house.
There is no requirement for a landlord to actually replace/repair items deducted from the deposit. Deposit deductions are to compensate the LL for the financial loss suffered due to damage.
I'm not saying that in your case the proposed deductions were fair or reasonable, just making a general point.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Thanks Benjus, yes I know. They also charged us for a new toilet seat as we had replaced it as there was a crack in the old one. So we paid for two  you live and learn.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0
