Do I need to open a case for a return?

I bought something the other day from a business seller and it doesn't work properly. I emailed them and said i wanted to return it, they said no problem, just return to the business address or open a case/request and we will refund in full on receipt. I am going to send it tracked and signed for with courier. My question is, do i need to open a case. It seems a bit harsh to get them a defect when they are not being difficult, or am I being very naive? Would I still be protected through Paypal? TIA.

Just return it, no need to open a case. Just keep proof of postage and delivery should you need it.0

Just return it via a tracked service, you can even use Hermes if you have a local Drop-Shop
If the seller does not refund, then you can open a case & you will have the tracking to prove its been returned0 -

Just out of interest, does the local drop shop give you a receipt?
I ask, because I had to send an item back via UPS (not ebay) and they said to drop it in, but I wouldn't get a receipt.
So, I said, no thanks I'll have the UPS driver come and I'll print out a returns form, get the reg and his signature as well as time and date.0 -

My Hermes Drop Shop give you a receipt. It is normally a handwritten slip with a barcode on. Collect Plus give you a printed receipt normally.
I do not like the UPS idea. You can track it through your account but if the shop deny receiving the parcel, where is the proof?0 -
Thanks everyone. I knew you lot would know what to do! Strangely in all my years on ebay i've never returned anything before. I sent it with MyHermes at the local drop shop and got a receipt with the date and a bar code on. Thanks again for the help.0
