Mattress Topper

Hello all,

I really could do with some help from anyone who knows a bit about mattress toppers.

I really dislike shopping, I find it very stressful because the market is swamped with so many products. Little choice would be perfect for me! Unfortunately we live in a world where there is so much choice, and this itself causes me stress.

Here is our basic needs.

I have developed lower back pain. I manage to sleep about 2 hours at the most, and then I wake up with lower pain.
Our mattress is only 2 years old, but it's still firm.

I'm looking to buy a mattress topper and I see memory foam, duck & down, hollow fiber etc, and I am completely lost.

Mattress topper must not provide too much extra warmth because my husband overheats very quickly.
I'd like the topper to be soft but not too soft & not too firm either.

I really can't see a mattress topper helping a bad back...yes maybe they would help a little but if you only get 2 hours sleep, you either need a new mattress suitable for your back or go to the doctors.

It's an old injury from a fracture that flares up. Little the GP can do.
I feel it is the mattress because if I sleep in a hotel bed I sleep better. Our bed mattress cost us £1300 2 years ago, unfortunately we can't afford to go buy a new mattress, not now anyway. That's why I want to try a mattress topper.

Anyone that knows differences in mattress toppers please?

I looked into these a little while ago and found this guide quite useful - http://www.soakandsleep.com/topper-buying-guide/do-you-need-a-topper/ use the menu option on the left to read more. I haven't bought yet as it's for my spare room and have no guests due for a while but when i do that's the place i will eventually buy from :)

Try a memory foam mattress before you buy anything, the pillows too.

You will love or hate it, they are so different.

I too fractured my skull, neck and back a few years ago, we tried everything. Memory foam feels great first off, we bought the stuff as toppers etc, than added topper over topper.

Couldn't live with the pillows, nor could the wife, too smothering.
Same can be said for the toppers. They simply don't help me

We reverted to a decent so called or'pedic mattress.

So, given I too sleep for about 2 hours per night, ;);)the best money spent is a decent bedroom telly and a bed in the spare room for your partner.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Do you think you are getting pain because your mattress isn't giving enough support or because it is too firm?

I bought a new mattress earlier in the year and got a lot of lower back pain. Put on a thin memory foam topper and now all fine. I think the mattress was just a little too firm for me.

This is the website I got my mattress from and there is oodles of info on there even if you don't buy from them http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/mattress-toppers/

Memory foam can make you warm so probably wouldn't be suitable for your husband. But if you think it would be suitable for you, you could buy a memory foam topper for just your side.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I broke my back a few years ago and haven't slept brilliantly since. This mattress now causes pain. I know its the mattress because if I sleep on the sofa, or any other bed, its not too bad.
