Hi we are on slimming world but my fiancee doesn't eat tomatoes so we have pasta and pasata but usually before we start we get the fresh fruit and the trolley is already £15-£20 full up then kids nappys milk and wipes bread cereal and our food and we're lucky if it's under £85 especially if we need washing powder etc how on earth do u get it under £60 a week for 6 of u????
It really depends what fruit you're getting e.g. apples or strawberries? The difference in price per kilo can be huge.0 -
we get pears, apples, banannas, strawberries etc etc. She is fussy with tomatoes i am aware pasata is sieved toms but she doesnt like the texture of it. i have done an soa which i will try and post here now... Wish me luck lol

If you rejig WHICH fruits you buy e.g. strawberries only for treats or if reduced, plenty of apples etc you can have just as much nutrition for less money.
For example, our general rule is that we're allowed as much frozen veg and apples (not frozen) as we like, bananas when reduced (they often are), anything else if decently reduced, treats like grapes, strawberries, pomegranates or raspberries only very occasionally or if significantly reduced.
Also, you may find tinned toms are cheaper than pasata.
And £1200 a year on presents?!0 -
if i rejig? which fruit? cant eat tinned toms as my fiancee doesnt like the texture and we are selective with what fruit we buy in whch season and how much we pay for it. not 1200 a year on presents was spose to be £200 a year really just usually about £50 each0

Is this the soa you meant?0

I'm suggesting you could spend much less than £15-20. You came on here to save money, remember, not justify/defend your current spending.
'In season' doesn't necessarily mean 'good value'. Strawberries are ALWAYS expensive for the amount of nutrition they give.0 -
Eat veg instead of fruit for slimming world, its cheaper, I know its hard. I used to find baked beans, jacket potatoes, bananas the most filling cheap foods. I used to cooked lots of jacket potatoes in the oven and warm up the leftovers the next day. Also baked beans can bulk up all kinds of things.
Stock up on baby wipes when they are on offer.
Choose kids cereal carefully and you can sometimes get cheaper stuff which is better for them as it doesn't contain so much sugar etc. how about the supermarket version of wheat biscuits.
Cheapest apples you can find, or kids ones for the kids. Even my 15 year old only eats about half an apple before she thinks she's reached the core.
One of my best habits was raiding my mums fridge when we visited her. She always stocks up much to much when we go for a weekend, so I used to bring back all the cheese, milk and meat we hasn't eaten. I think she actually bought more on purpose to help us out!
Can you raid anyone's fridge? (Only joking).Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
Also do you have a local market where you can get your fruit and veg? I don't mean the posh farmers markets, I mean a normal town one?Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0

I also do Slimming World and find that with careful shopping we can eat very well for very little.
If you can get to an Aldi then plan your meals around whichever Super Six deals Aldi are offering on fruit and/or veg - it will save you a lot of money. Last week you would have had those apples and pears for 69p a bag (there were around 8 apples and 7-8 pears in each bag - great value) This fortnight coming (starting today) there are cauliflowers, carrots, parsnips, leeks, and 4 pack onions and baking potatoes all for 59p - all Slimming World friendly foods. Aldi super six offers
Pop your shopping list into MySupermarket each week and shop about as much as possible to get the best weekly prices - also try to get to the supermarket when fruit and veg is being reduced, there are huge savings to be found. For example - my local Morrisons reduces their fresh produce throughout the day, hugely reducing all that's left at 6ish. Last night I picked up 4 packs of spring greens for 12p each, 4 packs of fresh figs (x4 in pack) for 19p each, 3 packs mushrooms at 19p each and a large bag of single bananas for 20p. There were plenty more salads and fruit to be had, but my fridge is full to bursting!
Buy veg when it is cheap and prepare and freeze it for the days when there are few yellow stickered reductions or for when the Aldi Super 6 offers aren't all to your taste.
Take a look at the Old Style Board for meal ideas and if you are stumped then list the special offers you can find for veg/fish/meat over on the board and ask for low fat recipe ideas - they are fantastically helpful over there and you will have several ideas withing just a few moments.Jan NSD 4/15

Yes I am on here to try and save money also work out what in gods name going to do about my debts I'm not trying to justify anything will give the super 6 a go what kind of meals do you make with that then? We have a fridge freezer but unfortunately no chest freezer else we would freeze a lot of things and do tend to keep leftovers etc for lunch the next day0
